The Originator of Minus Poetry
Born December 24, 1980 in Ilesha, Osun State. Ajakaye started writing in 1992 with a play titled IYA OJO ATI OMO RE (APA KINNI) meaning Ojo’s Mother and Her Son (part one). The play got lost in the process of being a drifter. He went to The Apostolic Primary School, and Ijesha Muslim Grammar School both in Ilesha. He studied Mass Communication at the Universal College of technology, Ile-Ife.
He has been a playwright and stage-based performer since few years. His interest in poetry began when he desired to study the use of punctuation marks, which he believes, are the tribal marks of poetry; and his love for the beauty of the verses. Among his early poems are Masquerade, and My greatest Joy.
Ajakaye published Juju Na Music (a play) and Wale Ajakaye’s Anthology of Ten Poems (poetry) in 2003.He has authored many unpublished plays and poems in different forms including his own, Minus Poetry.
He has been nominated for several awards both at home and abroad. In 2006, Association of West African Young Writers honoured Wale Ajakaye with Humanitarian Service Award. |
